You can search in the usual manner on StatsUserNetwork by typing a word into the search bar, but the site also has added capability called a ‘boolean search,’ to allow you to create more complex searches.
Firstly, you need to click the magnifying glass in the top navigation bar. From here you can create your search queries. Boolean search works by taking two or more terms and separating them with an instruction.
For example, if we wanted to search for all uses of the word statistics, but not include any references to the economy we would type ‘statistics NOT economy.’ You would then be presented with all the items across the site containing the word statistics but not the word economy.
If we wanted to search for all uses of the word statistics that also included a reference to the economy, we would type statistics AND economy.
If we wanted to search for all uses of the word statistics or any references to the economy, we would type statistics OR economy.
You can create more complex searches by adding additional terms but remember that you must use capital letters for the words ‘AND,’ ‘OR’ and ‘NOT’ when creating a Boolean search. If these words are not capitalised, your entry will be treated as a normal search.
